A laser-mapped budget robot that delivers app-controlled cleaning with mopping for under $200 — just don't expect it to dodge your kid's toys.
We used the S40C as a daily runner in a small studio apartment for two weeks, and the LDS mapping was solid from the first run -- accurate room boundaries, reliable no-go zone enforcement, no phantom walls. At under $150 on sale, that level of navigation is remarkable. The 520mL dustbin does not need emptying every other run. That is genuinely all it does well. The 5,000Pa suction bounces off anything thicker than a low-pile rug, the passive drag mop is decoration more than cleaning, and without any obstacle avoidance it will bulldoze through cables and pet bowls. Buy it for a small hard-floor apartment where you just want the robot to run while you are at work.

Pros & Cons
What We Like
- + LDS laser navigation builds accurate multi-floor maps — rare at this price
- + Xiaomi Home app offers no-go zones, virtual walls, and room-specific scheduling
- + 520mL dustbin is generous for a budget robot, reducing emptying frequency
What Could Be Better
- − 5,000Pa suction is entry-level — won't deep-clean medium or thick pile carpets
- − No obstacle avoidance at all — bumps into shoes, cables, and pet bowls
